What the certification means
The certification confirms that the TAVINOX PRESS system can be used in selected fire protection pipework where the conditions set out in the technical documentation and the installation manual are met. It is not a blanket certification without limits — what is certified is a specific range of sizes, materials, operating pressures and installation procedures.
"PAVUS certification to VdS requirements confirms that the TAVINOX PRESS system can be used in selected fire protection pipework."
- • The system is certified as a whole (tube + fitting + seal + pressing procedure), not as individual parts.
- • For the certified joint to be valid, the prescribed press tools must be used and the procedure in the manual followed.
- • Both design and installation must be based on the current TAVINOX PRESS technical documentation.
You can read more about the application on the fire protection pipework page.
Where TAVINOX PRESS can be used
The certified TAVINOX PRESS system is intended for these fire protection applications:
- • sprinkler systems (fixed fire-fighting systems),
- • deluge (spray) systems,
- • low-pressure water mist systems,
- • hydrant pipework.
The system is certified for wet and dry systems alike — that is, both for permanently water-filled pipework and for dry branches that fill only on activation. Always base the specific use for a given application and environment on the technical documentation and on the design of the fire-fighting system.
Why stainless steel in fire protection pipework
Fire protection pipework has a distinctive operating profile: for most of its service life it stands idle. Water stagnates in it for months or years, and the system has to work reliably at exactly the moment it is needed.
This is precisely where the corrosion resistance of the material is decisive. In carbon steel, long-term stagnation of water can lead to corrosion, to deposits and to a gradual deterioration of the flow conditions. AISI 316L stainless steel is considerably more resistant to corrosive attack from stagnant water, and that is directly linked to the long-term reliability of the whole installation.
With fire protection pipework, therefore, the point is not primarily the speed of installation but the long-term reliability of the system, which has to be fully functional the moment it is activated — even after years of inactivity. At the same time, the unpressed-joint indication on a press joint reduces the risk of an installation error that, in a fire protection system, would only show up at the critical moment.
Technical parameters of the certified system
| Range | DN 20 to DN 100 / OD 22 to OD 108 mm |
|---|---|
| Application | sprinkler, deluge and low-pressure water mist systems, hydrant pipework |
| System type | wet and dry |
| Fitting material | AISI 316L stainless steel |
| Tube material | AISI 316L / AISI 304L |
| Press profile | M |
| Operating pressure DN 20–DN 80 / Ø 22–88.9 mm | 16 bar |
| Operating pressure DN 100 / Ø 108 mm | 12.5 bar |
| Joint check | Leak Detect — blue unpressed-joint indicator |
| Certification | PAVUS, a.s. (authorised body no. 216), to the requirements of VdS / VdS CEA 4001 |
The Leak Detect function and the blue unpressed-joint indicator make it possible to detect, during the pressure test, a joint that has not been pressed — an unpressed joint shows up as a leak, which then has to be traced and put right. Always verify the details and the conditions in the technical documentation.
Watch out when pressing Ø 76.1–108 mm
Watch out when pressing the large sizes Ø 76.1–108 mm
"In fire protection pipework in sizes Ø 76.1–108 mm, ordinary press rings are not enough. To make the joint correctly you must use the DUO rings intended for double pressing, together with the M76108ZU adapter on the ED-60100 machine."
To press fire protection pipework in sizes Ø 76.1 to Ø 108 mm, the ED-60100 press machine must be used with the special DUO press rings and the M76108ZU adapter.
- • For the large sizes in fire protection pipework, the DUO rings must be used — the ones intended for double pressing.
- • Do not confuse the standard rings M76ZU, M89ZU and M108ZU with the DUO rings M76ZU.D, M88ZU.D and M108ZU.D — for fire protection systems in the large sizes, only the DUO versions apply.
- • For fire protection pipework in the large sizes, always specify, order and install DUO rings only.
- • The right tooling is essential for making the joint correctly and for keeping to the certified procedure.

The binding conditions for designing and installing the certified system are set out in the fire protection manual. Designers and installation companies should always work from the current TAVINOX PRESS technical documentation. The certified system is valid only where the range, the materials, the operating pressures, the prescribed tools and the installation procedures given in the documentation are observed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is TAVINOX PRESS certified for fire protection pipework?
Yes. The certificate was issued by PAVUS, a.s. (authorised body no. 216) on 20 January 2026 and the system is assessed to the requirements of VdS / VdS CEA 4001 for fixed fire-fighting systems. The use is valid where the technical documentation and the prescribed installation procedures are observed.
Which sizes are certified?
The certification covers the range DN 20 to DN 100 / OD 22 to OD 108 mm.
What tools are needed for Ø 76.1–108 mm?
For the large sizes Ø 76.1–108 mm you need the ED-60100 press machine, the DUO rings M76ZU.D, M88ZU.D and M108ZU.D and the M76108ZU adapter. The standard rings M76ZU, M89ZU and M108ZU are not used for fire protection pipework in these sizes.
