Why stainless steel for heating systems

A heating system must operate reliably for many years. Not only at start-up, but also after countless thermal cycles.

Zero oxygen diffusion

Stainless steel piping does not allow oxygen to permeate into the heating water. It protects radiators and pumps from corrosion, unlike other materials.

No chemical water treatment

The piping does not require corrosion inhibitors in the heating water, unlike carbon steel distribution systems where water treatment is mandatory.

Minimal thermal expansion

Simpler expansion compensation, fewer compensators, fewer problems when designing long pipe runs.

Clean heating circuit

No corrosion products are generated that would foul heat exchangers, valves and control fittings. The system remains hydraulically clean throughout its service life.

Service life without replacement

When operated within design conditions, stainless steel heating distribution serves for the full lifespan of the building without the need for full replacement.

Resistance to high flow rates

Essential for systems with variable flow and variable-speed pump drives.

TAVINOX PRESS Technical Manual

includes sections such as:

  • Dimenzování dle EN 12828
  • Dilatace a kompenzace tras
  • Požadavky na otopnou vodu
  • Montáž a tlakové zkoušky
  • Kompatibilita s kotli a TČ

A heating system is designed for decades. The choice of pipe material decides whether you will be dealing with repairs in 20 years — or not.

Stainless steel press-fit piping eliminates the risk of corrosion and circuit fouling throughout the projected lifespan of the building.

Frequently asked questions about heating distribution

What piping is suitable for a heating system?
Suitable piping for a heating system is stainless steel 316L – zero oxygen diffusion protects steel components, it does not require chemical treatment of the heating water, and it has minimal thermal expansion (α = 0.0165 mm/m·K).
Can stainless steel piping be combined with copper or steel in a heating system?
Yes, with copper and other stainless steel systems, without corrosion risk. With carbon steel, only via a brass dielectric fitting (min. 50 mm), and the flow direction must always be from carbon steel to stainless steel.
Which sealing ring should be chosen for heating – EPDM or FKM?
For standard heating systems (up to 110 °C), an EPDM ring is sufficient (–55 to +120 °C). An FKM ring (–20 to +160 °C) is intended for applications with continuous operation above 120 °C or with aggressive media.
What is the thermal expansion of 316L stainless steel piping?
α = 0.0165 mm/m·K. Example: a 10 m pipe will expand by 9.9 mm at ΔT 60 °C. Compensation joints are required for sections longer than 10 m. Details are available in the TAVINOX PRESS technical manual.
How do I identify an unpressed joint on TAVINOX PRESS fittings?
The fittings are equipped with a dual unpressed joint detection system: (1) Leak Detect — EPDM O-ring with four water channels allows medium through from 0.1 bar, (2) a blue plastic pressing indicator that automatically falls off after correct pressing.
Is TAVINOX PRESS compatible with REMS pressing tools?
Yes. The system uses press profile M and is compatible with Zupper (recommended solution with TAVINOX jaws), REMS, Novopress, Hilti, Ridgid, Klauke and Milwaukee tools.
Do I need a welding license to install TAVINOX PRESS?
No. The TAVINOX PRESS pressing system is flameless – it does not require welding, brazing or a welding license. The M profile is compatible with Zupper, REMS and other tools.
