TAVINOX PRESS press-fit system

Cooling and air-conditioning pipework

Condensation attacks from the outside. Glycol tests from within. Stainless steel resists from both sides.

TAVINOX PRESS is a stainless steel press-fit system certified for chilled water systems. Compatible with water/glycol mixtures up to 50/50.

Why stainless steel for cooling pipework

Cooling places specific demands on piping. External surface condensation causes corrosion in conventional materials.

Resistance to external condensation

Stainless steel does not corrode on the surface or at points of damaged insulation. A common problem with steel pipework in cooling applications.

Universal temperature range

One material for both heating and cooling modes. Stainless steel handles both without loss of properties, ideal for reversible heat pumps.

No corrosion inside or outside

Stainless steel resists both the medium and the surrounding environment simultaneously, unlike carbon steel which requires protection from both sides.

Inert to glycol mixtures

Stainless steel does not react with water/glycol mixtures even upon their degradation, unlike carbon steel where glycol can cause corrosion.

Long-term flow stability

The smooth internal surface, free of corrosion deposits, maintains design flow rates and pressure losses throughout the service life.

Leak-tightness

Correctly pressed joints minimise the risk of micro-leaks which, in conventional joints, cause condensation damage to building structures.

Cooling systems suffer from corrosion from the outside even before from the inside. Stainless steel eliminates this in both cases.

Choosing stainless steel piping for cooling distribution reduces the risk of condensation-related failures and extends the lifetime of the entire system.

Frequently asked questions about cooling distribution

What piping is suitable for cooling and air-conditioning distribution systems?
Stainless steel AISI 316L – resists external condensation without surface treatment and is inert to water/glycol mixtures. TAVINOX PRESS is certified for 6 bar from –10 °C.
Does stainless steel piping resist surface condensation?
Yes. AISI 316L does not corrode on the surface or in places with damaged insulation, where carbon steel is prone to pitting corrosion. However, high-quality thermal insulation according to EN 14303 is still essential.
Can TAVINOX PRESS stainless steel piping be used with water/glycol mixtures?
Yes. Certified for water/glycol mixtures up to a maximum ratio of 50/50 % for cooling, air-conditioning and solar applications.
Does TAVINOX offer insulation for cooling pipes?
TAVINOX does not provide its own insulation system. We recommend insulation in accordance with EN 14303, designed according to the specific operating conditions.
Does TAVINOX PRESS cover both heating and cooling modes of a reversible heat pump?
Yes. One system for both modes – heating 16 bar/110 °C, cooling 6 bar/–10 °C. There is no need to change the piping material when switching modes.
Which sealing material is suitable for cooling circuits?
Standard EPDM with temperature resistance from –55 to +120 °C covers cooling operation with a wide safety margin. For applications with aggressive media, FKM is available (–20 to +160 °C).
Can stainless steel piping be combined with copper in cooling systems?
Yes. Combination with copper and other stainless steel systems is unrestricted. With carbon steel, only via a brass dielectric fitting (min. 50 mm), and the flow direction must always be from carbon steel to stainless steel.
